Contemporary chip and potato products will be high on autumn and winter menus according to McCain.

The frozen potato speciality producer is rolling out Chunky Wedges -- a plainer version of Savoury Wedges -- from next week and it is backing both variants with a six-week heavy-weight TV campaign.

Two ads, called Sofa and Stairs, break on November 5.

Other activity has included rebranding Stringfellows as Crispy French Fries -- to communicate the product characteristics more clearly -- and offering 750g packs across the McCain range at a special promotional price of 99p.

Joyce Jesson, contemporary fries product manager, said McCain aimed to offer consumers more mealtime versatility.
