MeadWestvaco Corp.

MeadWestvaco Corp., Stamford, Connecticut, USA, has agreed to sell its Stevenson, Alabama, corrugating medium mill and related assets, including seven container plants and 82,000 acres of timberlands, to Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Chicago, Illinois for approximately US$ 375 million. The company plans to close its consumer and office products group envelope plant located in Worcester, Massachusetts. MWV expects to close the facility by late September and transfer product manufacturing to other MWV facilities.

MWV has formed a limited liability corporation that will combine the business assets of its Corrosion Technology Group with those of Bioclimatic, Inc., Delran, New Jersey, USA. The new business, called MeadWestvaco Air Systems, will serve both industrial and commercial markets and operate as part of MWV's Specialty Chemicals Division.
