McLaughlin stars as youngsters ease past Inter.

L'POOL U19....... 4 INTER U19......... 1 LIVERPOOL Under-19s cruised into the last 16 of the NextGen Series with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Inter Milan at St Helens' Langtree Park.

It was win or bust for Alex Inglethorpe's side in their final group game and his youngsters delivered in style against the holders.

Inter, who had already qualified as group winners, were blown away by two penalties from skipper Conor Coady and two neat finishes from Samed Yesil.

The Reds qualified as one of the best third placed sides and will now await the draw to discover their next European assignment.

Liverpool were frustrated early on as Inter kept possession well. Twice, Djumo Bocar had sight of goal but on both occasions he failed to hit the target.

Midway through the first half Krisztian Adorjan's poor touch put the Reds into trouble but the young Hungarian made amends with a vital last-ditch tackle on Thomas Pedrabissi.

Liverpool had struggled to get in SPOT the behind an organised backline but on the half hour mark they were in front. Man of the match Ryan McLaughlin burst into the penalty box and was carelessly upended by Marco Ferrara's rash tackle.

Coady took responsibility from the spot and clinically dispatched it past Dawid Smug.

Ten minutes before the break the home side had breathing space. A wretched backpass from Lorenzo Paramatti was pounced on by Yesil, who coolly rounded Smug and rolled into the empty net.

Inter would have swiftly reduced the deficit but for a brilliant challenge from centre-back Jakub Sokolik.

In the second half the Reds started slowly and were punished. Substitute Franceso Forte saw his header cleared off the line by McLaughlin but Marko Benassi slammed home the rebound.

Liverpool's response was emphatic. Dan Tricket-Smith, who had replaced Jerome Sinclair, was denied by Smug but in the 65th minute their two-goal advantage was restored.

Jordon Ibe's pass released McLaughlin down the right and the Northern Irish full-back's cross was turned past the keeper by Yesil from close range.

Inter were beaten and 12 minutes from time Liverpool grabbed a fourth when McLaughlin was brought down in the box and Coady put away his second penalty.
