McLUCKEY DISCUSSES REPORTS WITH EMPLOYEES ABOUT ROCKWELL MOVE
ANAHEIM, Calif., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- To dispel published reports that Rockwell International's (NYSE: ROK) Defense Electronics businesses were threatening to leave Anaheim, John A. McLuckey, president Defense Electronics, spoke to the Anaheim employees this morning. "I want to set the record straight," McLuckey said. "There are no plans to leave Anaheim."
The rumor started when Richard Clark, a Rockwell employee and also a member of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, made a presentation to the Anaheim City Council on Tuesday, July 28, regarding a city utility tax proposal. The context of Clark's prepared statement was not formally authorized by Rockwell senior management. In his remarks, Clark was attempting to compare Rockwell's costs of doing business in Southern California to other states to show how all businesses, not just Rockwell, face challenges in competing with out- of-state businesses.
"Rockwell has been in Anaheim for 30 years and has a large engineering work force here," McLuckey said. "California, and especially Southern California, continues to have the technical work force required in our business. We also have a large investment in laboratories and facilities at our Anaheim complex.
"As we all know, the defense budget is shrinking and being cost competitive is extremely important to obtain new business," McLuckey said. "Of course, the costs of doing business in Anaheim and the state of California are high, and a major concern of the corporation. However, we remain committed to maintaining our presence in Anaheim. We will, of course, continue to work with the city to resolve the utility tax issue," he said.
Rockwell is a multi-industry company applying advanced technology to a wide range of products in its electronics, aerospace, automotive and graphics business.
