 BY NASA JOHNSON SPACE CENTER AS TECHNICAL SUPPORT CONTRACTOR
 HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Houston Division of McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Co. has been selected by NASA Johnson Space Center, Exploration Programs Office as the technical support contractor for the Space Exploration Initiative.
 The basic contract is for two years with three one-year options. The contract value will be approximately $20 million if all extensions and options are exercised.
 Under the contract, McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) will provide engineering support for mission analysis and systems engineering tasks and will assist with program integration for planet surface systems, space transportation, orbital nodes and robotics. In addition, McDonnell Douglas will support the preparation of scientific studies and research reports, and documentation of science meetings and forums.
 "Starting in June we will begin supporting initiatives which are aimed at establishing a permanent presence on the moon, Mars and beyond.  Subcontractors involved in the technical support contract include: Honeywell Inc. of Clearwater, Fla.; General Electric of Cherry Hill, N.J.; MK-Ferguson of Cleveland, Ohio; and IBM, Eagle Engineering, GHG Corp. and Syscom, all of Houston.
