McDONNELL DOUGLAS REALIGNS NON-AEROSPACE BUSINESSES WITH RETIREMENT OF GROUP EXECUTIVE

 ST. LOUIS, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) today announced that C. James Dorrenbacher, 65, will retire on Feb. 1 as senior vice president-group executive of the corporation's non- aerospace complementary businesses.
 Upon his retirement, three of the four complementary businesses will report to Herbert J. Lanese, McDonnell Douglas executive vice president and chief financial officer. These businesses are McDonnell Douglas Finance Corp., led by George M. Rosen, president; McDonnell Douglas Realty Co., led by Thomas J. Motherway, president; and McDonnell Douglas Travel Co., led by Gregory Judd, president. Each of the companies is headquartered in Southern California.
 In addition, Thomas J. Lawlor Jr. will continue in his role as group vice president-finance, Complementary Companies for the three businesses.
 Also effective Feb. 1, the fourth complementary business, McDonnell Douglas Technical Services Co., will report to Kenneth A. Francis, executive vice president for McDonnell Douglas. Headed by Ronald E. English, president, the company is based in Long Beach, Calif., and offers temporary personnel to both McDonnell Douglas and outside clients.
 The changes in the reporting relationships of the complementary businesses reflect the fact that the downsizing and redirecting of these businesses to a more focused role of primarily supporting McDonnell Douglas' aerospace businesses has been completed.
 Dorrenbacher's career with McDonnell Douglas spans more than four decades. He joined Douglas Aircraft Company 1950 as a field group engineer and quickly moved through a series of engineering management positions. In 1965, he was promoted to vice president-advanced systems and technology for Douglas.
 After the formation of McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co. (MDAC) in 1968, Dorrenbacher went on to hold a number of executive positions with the company's space and missile operations in Huntington Beach, Calif. In 1975, he was named vice president-engineering for MDAC- Huntington Beach, and in 1981, he was promoted to corporate vice president with McDonnell Douglas. In 1988, Dorrenbacher took on the challenge of president of the newly formed McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Company, and in 1990, he was promoted to his current position.
 Dorrenbacher holds a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering. In 1989 he received a honorary doctorate in engineering from Purdue University. He is a member of several industry and engineering associations, among them the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Air Force Association and the Association of the U.S. Army.
