McDONNELL DOUGLAS HONORS FAR EASTERN AIR TRANSPORT

LONG BEACH, Calif., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Far Eastern Air Transport has been honored by McDonnell Douglas for the airline's outstanding dispatch reliability performance with its MD-80 jetliners.
Far Eastern operates domestic flights throughout the Republic of China from its base at Taipei.
The McDonnell Douglas award recognizes Far Eastern's nearly flawless record of on-time departure service with its fleet of MD-80 aircraft. The airline has achieved a 99.95 percent dispatch reliability record with its MD-80s since they were introduced into the Far Eastern fleet in 1991.
Dispatch reliability measures an aircraft's mechanical readiness to fly within 15 minutes of its scheduled departure. Far Eastern operates nearly 1,400 MD-80 flights per month, with virtually every departure on time and not delayed for technical reasons.
James R. Phillips, vice president and general manager of product support for Douglas Aircraft Co., said, "Such an outstanding record of performance by an airline is a credit to everyone on the staff at Far Eastern. Not only are they doing their best for the airline, but also they are convincing their customers that they put them first in terms of service."
Far Eastern President, Gen. H.I. Chiang, accepted the award, saying, "Our very capable, dedicated maintenance and dispatch staff are absolutely committed to providing our customers with the safest, most dependable service in the country."
Far Eastern recently took delivery of two more MD-80 twin jets from McDonnell Douglas. They are scheduled to enter service on the airline's domestic routes in early July.
The MD-80 is an advanced twin-engine narrowbody aircraft designed to serve short- and medium-range routes. McDonnell Douglas has delivered more than 1,060 MD-80s since they were introduced in 1980.
The MD-80 fleet has now flown nearly 6 billion statute miles, carrying more than 900 million passengers. The MD-80 is flown by nearly 60 operators worldwide.
