McDONNELL DOUGLAS GOVERNMENT AEROSPACE RECEIVES 1992 LEADERSHIP AWARD
FROM QUALITY & PRODUCTIVITY MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Oct., 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of the Quality & Productivity Management Association (QPMA) has selected the space systems operations of McDonnell Douglas Government Aerospace for its 1992 Leadership Award. The award recognizes "exemplary improvement in quality, productivity and customer satisfaction due to significantly improved organizational effectiveness" in a manufacturing organization.
In selecting McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD), the QPMA Leadership Award Committee evaluated quality improvement strategy, examined how the company's quality program is being implemented, and judged the results the space systems operation's quality efforts have achieved.
Dave Wensley, vice president, Advanced Programs & Technology, accepted the award on behalf of the company at the QPMA's fall conference meeting in New Orleans on Oct. 9.
"We earned this award because of the quality achievements of all our employees and the strong leadership of our management team," said Wensley.
McDonnell Douglas is a major supplier of space related products and services worldwide, including the Delta Launch Vehicle and Work Package 2 of NASA's Space Station Freedom.
The Delta launch vehicle, with a record of 37 consecutive successes over the past six years, maintains the highest reliability of any launch vehicle in the world.
Another primary product -- the payload fairings built for Delta and Titan launch vehicles -- have achieved a 100 percent success rate in 337 launches.
The Quality and Productivity Management Association (formerly the American Productivity Management Association) is a professional organization whose mission is to "enhance its members' capability to improve their organizational effectiveness through quality, productivity and customer satisfaction."
QPMA members include more than 600 companies and institutions, representing a cross section of American industry from aerospace to utilities. Past winners of the QPMA Leadership Award include Ford Motor Co., Harley Davidson, Texas Instruments and IBM.
