McDONNELL DOUGLAS ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS CO. TO PRESENT
 DISPLAY AT CONVENTION, APRIL 8-12
McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems Co. invites members of the news media to visit its display at the Army Aviation Association of America Annual Convention. The convention will be held April 8-12 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The display is in booth 900.
McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems will feature a live demonstration of the Mast Mounted Sight (MMS). The MMS is an integrated day/night infrared television sensor system with a laser target designator. The system is mounted above the rotor of the OH-58D as part of the U.S. Army's Helicopter Improvement Program (AHIP).
Teamed with the McDonnell Douglas-built Apache helicopter, the MMS proved to be a valuable asset during Desert Storm. The MMS was used to detect and designate targets for the Apache. Reports from the field estimate that the Apache/AHIP teams destroyed 15 to 20 tanks per mission -- with an overall AHIP readiness rating between 85 and 90 percent. During Desert Storm, the MMS laser designators also marked targets for artillery-fired Copperhead shells, search and rescue, and forward observation for field artillery and calvary missions.
The MMS's capabilities also made possible the sinking of enemy patrol boats, the capture of the first Iraqi POWs, the destruction of oil rig platforms used by the enemy as anti-aircraft artillery sites, and the destruction of an enemy Silkworm anti-ship missile installation.
McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems representative, Jack Duganne will be available throughout the show to provide more MMS details. Reporters may also call Karolyn Wolf at 703-883-3825 for more information.
