 McDONNELL DOUGLAS DELIVERS 140 MD-80S IN 1991
LONG BEACH, Calif., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas

(NYSE: MD) delivered 140 MD-80s in 1991, one over the record of 139 in 1990. The company also turned out 34 MD-11s last year, the first full year of production for the long-range, wide-body jetliner.
The total of 174 aircraft deliveries is the most for the Long Beach-based Douglas Aircraft Co. since 1969 when it delivered 202 DC-8s and DC-9s.
McDonnell Douglas has delivered 965 MD-80s since the aircraft program was initiated in 1980. Combined with the DC-9, its predecessor jetliner, the intermediate range twin jet program at Douglas has now produced and put into service 1,941 aircraft, making it one of the most successful commercial jet programs in aviation history. The MD-80 is operated by more than 50 customers around the world.
The 34 MD-11s include three for which full payment was received, although formal title transfer will be completed in 1992. Combined with three delivered at the end of 1990, there are 37 total deliveries for the company's new long range trijet. The MD-11 is now in service with 11 customers around the world.
The last MD-80 of 1991 was delivered to International Lease Finance Corp., a U.S.-based aircraft leasing company, and the final MD-11 of the year was transferred to GPA Group of Ireland and will be operated by Garuda Indonesian Airlines.
The MD-11 has met with strong acceptance in the marketplace. Production of MD-11s is expected to rise to approximately 40 aircraft in 1992 and remain at that level in 1993 and 1994. MD-80 deliveries are forecast at approximately 100 aircraft in 1992. Deliveries next year will be dependent on market requirements.
