McDONNELL DOUGLAS CORP. PRESENTS THE CORPORATION'S HIGHEST HONOR

 ST. LOUIS, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas Corp. presented 103 individuals with the corporation's highest honor, the Spirit of Excellence Award, in ceremonies here July 27.
 In recognition of their extraordinary achievements, this select group of employees and suppliers will receive a crystal award and McDonnell Douglas stock at a banquet held here tonight.
 The award was established in 1989 to recognize employees and suppliers who display initiative, ingenuity, dedication to quality, and commitment to customer satisfaction.
 "Spirit of Excellence Award winners are people who continuously look for ways to improve McDonnell Douglas products and services," said John F. McDonnell, the corporation's chairman and chief executive officer. "They are people who make customer satisfaction a top priority. We know we can depend on them and so do their customers."
 This year's winners consist of eight teams and one individual. In the southern California area awards were presented to 42 employees and suppliers.
 Team winners of the Spirit of Excellence Award include the American Airlines Support Team and the MD-11 Fuel Team from Douglas Aircraft Company, the Non-Destructive Testing Team from McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, and Hydroform USA.
 The members of the American Airlines Support Team are: John Bouza of Fountain Valley, Calif.; Bert Cerniaz and Sam Gracy of Long Beach, Calif.; Jon Cole of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; Christy Couillard of La Palma, Calif.; Yolanda Cusumano, Diane Shattuc, Vicki Webber and Mike Wegener Jr. of Lakewood, Calif.; Dennise Doyle and Theresa Galbraith of Norwalk, Calif.; Kathy Hansen of Buena Park, Calif.; Jack Jewell of Mission Viejo, Calif.; Todd Johnson of Anaheim, Calif.; Kirk Kelly of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Ed Matuz of Cypress, Calif; Don Meilman of Huntington Beach, Calif; Nick Sandoval of Irvine, Calif.; and Jack Vander Molen of Westminster, Calif.
 As a supplier of spare parts to American Airlines, Douglas Aircraft Co. was ranked 23rd out of a field of 25 suppliers. This team moved the company to the No. 1 position in six months, and has helped the company consistently maintain
a top position. The members of the MD-11 Fuel


Team are: Rafael Castillo of Whittier, Calif.; Bob Getz of Buena Vista, Calif.; Mike Karal and Barry Kudlak of Huntington Beach, Calif.; Debbie Lisoskie of Fullerton, Calif.; Matt McBee of Long Beach, Calif.; Joe Robinson of Fountain Valley, Calif.; Raj Singh of Placentia, Calif.; and Kap Yoon of Torrance, Calif.
 The MD-11 Fuel Team was chartered to solve problems with the aircraft's fuel system during the early stages of the MD-11 program. The team identified areas for improvement and established new procedures and requirements.
 The members of the Non-Destructive Testing Team are: Dave Anderson of Cypress, Calif.; Larry Gilek of Las Vegas, Nevada; Charlie Grimm of Westminster, Calif.; Bob Guthrie of Orange, Calif.; Joe Johnson Jr. of San Bernadino, Calif.; Terry Klopka Jr. of Chino, Calif.; Mark Lemay and Steve Mort of Huntington Beach, Calif.; Jimmy Osti of Los Angeles, Calif.; and John Swain of Long Beach, Calif.
 The Non-Destructive Testing Team tests parts and raw materials that go into products like the C-17 and F-15. By developing a matrix to manage its performance, this team improved its performance during 1992 by 20.5 percent and earned its highest ranking ever in its annual customer satisfaction survey.
 The members of the Hydroform USA team are: Chester Jablonski and Donald Brooks of Cypress, Calif.; and Kerry Jablonski of Buena Park, Calif.
 Hydroform specializes in sheet metal forming, and provides expertise in tool design and fabrication that has benefited numerous McDonnell Douglas programs. The company received a quality acceptance rate of 99.75 percent for 1992 and an on-time delivery rate of 93 percent.
