McDONNELL DOUGLAS CHOSEN TO LAUNCH ARGOS SPACECRAFT

 HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Air Force has chosen the McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) Delta II expendable launch vehicle to carry the P91-1 ARGOS spacecraft into low earth orbit.
 The Argos spacecraft, a scientific research vehicle consisting of eight experiments, will be launched on a Delta II 7920-10 expendable launch vehicle in late l995. The Delta II 7920-10 is a two-stage rocket with a 10-foot fairing.
 "This will be the first Delta II U.S. Air Force mission launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.," said Larry Gale, McDonnell Douglas Aerospace's director of U.S. Air Force launches. "We have a good working relationship with the Air Force. Since 1989, the Delta II has successfully launched 14 NAVSTAR Global Positioning Satellites for the Air Force."
 During the past 15 years, the Delta launch vehicle has achieved a 98.8 percent success record, with 81 successful launches out of 82 attempts. Since 1986, Delta has launched 38 payloads with a 100 percent success rate.
