McDONNELL DOUGLAS BEGINS FLIGHT TESTING OF NEW SYSTEM
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 27, 1992 -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) has begun

airworthiness flight testing of a new system designed to improve fighter aircraft effectiveness during air combat engagements.
Testing of the Integrated Controls and Avionics for Air Superiority (ICAAS) system began Feb. 20 from McDonnell Douglas facilities in St. Louis, using an F-15B test aircraft.
Under a U.S. Air Force contract for ICAAS, McDonnell Douglas has developed an effective real-time, knowledge-based, decision-aiding system that will enable pilots to make better decisions faster during the heat of combat.
The F-15B test aircraft is equipped with a McDonnell Aircraft Cockpit 2000, a state-of-the-art control and display suite whose technological centerpiece is a large, multipurpose color situation display working in conjunction with a helmet mounted display. Extremely high throughput onboard computers provide the required computational capability for the ICAAS system.
After airworthiness flight tests in St. Louis, the aircraft will be flown to Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
ICAAS is managed by the Air Force's Wright Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
