McDONNELL DOUGLAS AWARDS FIRST C-17 PRODUCTION CONTRACT UNDER DOD MENTOR-PROTEGE PROGRAM

LONG BEACH, Calif., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Aircraft Engineering Corp. of Paramount, Calif., has been awarded the first contract for C-17 parts production by McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) under the Department of Defense's Mentor-Protege Program.

Aircraft Engineering will assemble the centerline bulkhead for the C-17 wing. The contract covers eight aircraft and is worth $97,165.

DOD established the Mentor-Protege Program to allow major defense contractors to assist minority businesses with the transfer of technologies and knowledge that will help the companies expand their capabilities. The program is designed to aid the companies so they are better able to compete for future business from other defense and civilian contractors.

Aircraft Engineering was founded in 1959 by E.T. Warner, a Native American of Cherokee Indian heritage. The company has 140 employees who do machining, welding, composite fabrication, tooling and assembly, along with engineering and design.

The company will assemble the bulkhead, which forms the center portion of the C-17 wing structure, using tooling and material supplied by McDonnell Douglas. The contract also includes options for assembly of bulkheads on 16 additional aircraft.
