McDONNELL DOUGLAS ANNOUNCES SPECIAL EVENTS FOR HELI-EXPO '92
MESA, Ariz., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Special events, a news media briefing, delivery of three helicopters and a major announcement regarding a new name for the company's front-line commercial helicopter, the MDX, highlight activities of McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co. at Heli-Expo '92.
The major event for both news media personnel and the attending public will be an announcement of a new name for the company's eight-place, twin-engine helicopter. The aircraft has been called MDX since the early stages of its development.
"It's time to give the helicopter a name reflecting its leadership position in the rotorcraft world that properly portrays its capabilities and unique flying characteristics," said Bobbie Grace, vice president of business development for the company.
Additionally, the company will deliver three aircraft to customers attending Heli-Expo '92. Two of them will be the company's new MD 520N aircraft featuring the NOTAR(TM) anti-torque and directional control system.
These ships will go to the Phoenix Police Department and to Heli- Dyne Inc., a Long Beach, Calif., helicopter operator and McDonnell Douglas service center.
Scheduled to accept the aircraft for the city of Phoenix will be Mayor Paul Johnson and Police Chief Dennis Garrett. The aircraft is the seventh of seven MD 520Ns delivered to the city. The department became the first operator of no-tail-rotor helicopters in October 1991.
Heli-Dyne will be represented by company chief executive officer Lynn Carlson. The Heli-Dyne aircraft is a duplicate of the red helicopter featured in the company's current advertising campaign. It will be used during the three-day trade show for customer and news media demonstration flights, operating from the Las Vegas Hilton helipad adjacent to the convention center.
The third delivery is an MD 500E to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which has operated McDonnell Douglas and predecessor company helicopters since 1969.
A third MD 520N helicopter will be available for customer and news media demonstration flights, operating from McCarren International Airport. Heli-Expo '92 marks the first time three MD 520N helicopters have been available for public demonstration and display outside the company's production facility.
Working journalists wishing to have a demonstration flight should contact Ken Jensen, 602-891-2119, before March 20.
