McDONNELL DOUGLAS ANNOUNCES LAYOFFS AT ITS TULSA, OKLA., PLANT
ST. LOUIS, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) said today it is notifying 232 employees at its plant in Tulsa, Okla., that they will be laid off as a result of the general downturn in the aerospace industry, in both defense and commercial programs.
A spokesman said the continuing shutdown of the F-15 line, a temporary production slowdown on the F/A-18 C/D program prior to the planned ramp-up of the F/A-18 E/F program, as well as reduced production rates on the MD-80 and MD-11 commercial jets, all contributed to the layoffs.
Of the 232 total, 193 are union members who are being notified today. Their last day will be Sept. 11 according to the terms of the union's collective bargaining agreement with the company. There are 39 people who are non-union employees. Their last day will be two weeks from notification.
