McDONNELL DOUGLAS ANNOUNCES 300 PRODUCTION WORKER LAY-OFFS

McDONNELL DOUGLAS ANNOUNCES 300 PRODUCTION WORKER LAY-OFFS
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD) today is notifying 300 production workers here that they are being laid off, effective Nov. 6, due to a downturn in the company's business base.
The F-15 Eagle production line is winding down because of a gap of at least nine months between delivery of the last U.S. Air Force F-15E on the company's order books and the anticipated delivery of the first F-15XP for Saudi Arabia. Also, the production rate for the F/A-18 Hornet is being reduced.
All 300 people being laid off are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), District Lodge 837.
