McDATA AND PROGINET ANNOUNCE OSI ALLIANCE

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Proginet Corporation, the world leader in Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) applications for IBM mainframes, and McDATA Corporation, the leading supplier of network products interconnecting IBM and Open Systems resources, today announced an alliance to deliver OSI applications that support McDATA's new LinkMaster 6200 Network Gateway for LAN-to-mainframe connectivity.
Announced in October, McDATA's LinkMaster 6200 Network Gateway provides LAN-to-mainframe connectivity via Ethernet, token ring and Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI). It permits high-capacity file transfer and file access, and concurrently supports large numbers of TCP~IP and SNA users via IBM.
"The goal of this alliance is to give mainframe users access to FDDI directly without having to relay data through intermediate routers or front-end processors," said James F. Kelly, Proginet vice president of engineering. "This will also allow us to exponentially improve the performance of OSI file transfer, as well as increase the number of simultaneous connections that our products can support."
"We view Proginet's statement of direction as an important milestone in helping us meet our commitment to interconnect IBM and Open Systems resources," said Jamie Zartman, senior business planner at McDATA. "Because the LinkMaster 6200 Network Gateway is built on an open architecture platform and industry standards, it provides an ideal platform for jointly developed technology solutions."
"This relationship is an important part of our commitment to giving our users better options for lower layer connectivity than traditional front-end processors," said Brian Berns, Proginet vice president of marketing and sales. "Customers have been asking for this for years."
McDATA Corporation designs and manufactures computer network products that interconnect IBM and Open Systems resources. McDATA's LinkMaster controllers, channel extenders and internetworking gateways are sold through direct channels in the United States and by a worldwide distribution network.
Proginet Corporation is a privately held company headquartered in Uniondale, N.Y. Founded in 1982, Proginet now does business in more than 20 countries. Proginet Corp. is the developer of the XCOM 6.2 product line, now owned by the Legent Corporation.
