McCombe head boy; Coca Cola CHAMPIONSHIP All the goals and all the action from last night's Championship games Charlton 1 Bristol City 1.

CAPTAIN Jamie McCombe scored his second goal in two games to extend Bristol City's lead on top of the Championship to three points.

After five games undefeated, City boss Gary Johnson reckoned the top-of-the-table clash at Charlton would be a true test of his side's Premier League potential.

And last season's League One runners-up looked like failing in the first half when they trailed to a strike from Darren Ambrose.

But Johnson's men raised their game to draw level from McCombe's header on 62 minutes and only the bar denied them a victory.

Charlton struck after Luke Varney flicked Kelly Youga's pass into the path of Ambrose who slotted home with his right foot after eight minutes.

But City came out all guns blazing after the break and McCombe glanced in Lee Johnson's corner at the near post.
