McCORD PAYEN TO EXPAND ITS ALABAMA GASKET OPERATION, CREATE NEW JOBS

ATHENS, Ala., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- McCord Payen Inc., a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of hard gaskets to engine manufacturers throughout the world, announced today that it will expand the size of its Athens manufacturing plant by more than 35 percent and create 60 new jobs as a result.
The plant currently employs 213 people and houses 125,000 square feet of manufacturing, material storage and office space. The plan is for approximately 45,000 square feet of manufacturing space to be added, which will be the second major expansion to take place at Athens in the past two years.
As part of this decision, the operations of the AE Goetze -- formerly Goetze Corporation of America -- LaGrange, Ga., plant will be consolidated into the Athens plant. According to Ronald R. Comer, president of McCord Payen, the two plants had to be merged to improve capacity utilization and reduce operating costs.
"We have a new and modern facility in Athens that we want to take advantage of," Comer said. "We regret any adverse effects this decision will have on our employees, their families and the community of LaGrange.
"The McCord management team believes, however, that this decision is in the best long-term interest of the company and its remaining employees."
McCord also operates a sales/engineering and test facility in Wyandotte, Mich., and designs, manufactures and supplies a complete line of hard gaskets in a variety of materials. McCord is a member of the T&N Group.
