Maybe Market Research is Rocket Science; IHL Consulting Group Adds Former Rocket Scientist to Team.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- It's a well-worn cliche, "It's not rocket science" but the vast amounts of data that market researchers now collect is now requiring advanced analytics to assist retailers and technology companies target their customers. IHL Consulting Group is pleased to announce the addition of Jerry Sheldon, a former real-life rocket scientist, to their research team.

"Jerry is one of those unique individuals that is not only brilliant but relatable, a combination that is a true asset when doing research, looking for trends/relationships and then communicating that information to our customers in an actionable way that is easy to understand," said Greg Buzek, president of IHL Consulting Group, a research analyst and consultancy firm that serves retailers and retail technology vendors. "It's a real honor to have him join our team to help further ensure the integrity of our research through his analytics abilities and character."

After graduating from Georgia Tech University with both bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering, Sheldon joined Pratt & Whitney in 1992. He worked in the company's space propulsion division, where Sheldon specialized in fracture mechanics. His team studied materials used in construction of rockets and the Space Shuttle to determine how long each material could last under pressure and stress. While at Pratt & Whitney, Sheldon earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Miami.

"Retailers and technology professionals face a similar challenge in our data-intensive world; namely the need to gather data, synthesize that data and quickly act on it," Sheldon said. "My focus will be on enhancing the data analytics of IHL's databases and research studies to allow our customers to rapidly adapt to changing market conditions in very specific and actionable ways. I'm excited about the opportunity to join IHL."
