Matthews fourth in ACT junior league.

Byline: JON HARLAND

FIBRAX Wrexham RC junior Ben Matthews is continuing his long season with some notable performances on the banked boards of the Manchester Velodrome.

Competing in the 13-week ACT Series on Monday evenings, the Gresford trackie is currently lying fourth in the junior league with 19 points, behind runaway leader of 58.5 points, Sport City Velo''s Alistair Thomas.

He took three of the 12-lap prizes in the 4km lap prize race last Monday, and also featured prominently in the 4km scratch race, finishing third place behind Paul Cheetham (Base 2 Race) in a time of three minutes 50.753 for the distance.

In September, Matthews also took several top-five finishes in North Wales circuit races on the road, the best being a third place in one of the Graham Weigh Cycles Series weekly events at Marsh Tracks in Rhyl, a series which is set for 24 Wednesday nights from April to September in 2012.

His own club join Dwyfor CC, Rhos-On-Sea CC, Deeside Olympic RC, VC Melyd and Rhyl CC in running this series, an increase of one North Wales club from 2011.
