Matthew Wright column: Smoke alarm..

CIGAR-smoking star Chris Tarrant had the shock of his life when he went to grab a stogie while holidaying in Botswana.

Opening the box of his precious smokes, the Capital FM DJ and Who Wants To be A Millionaire? presenter was horrified to discover the cigars were snapped in half.

How had this happened, he wondered. Had he been sold a duff batch?

Stepping out of his tent - he's on safari there with wife Ingrid - and still huffing over his broken cigars, he noticed a plume of smoke wafting from a nearby tree.

Walking closer, Chris spotted Ingrid puffing away on one of his broken cigars.

Mrs Tarrant had discovered that cigar smoke is a great bug repellent. It turns out it was she who had she snapped her hubby's smokes in half. But why?

"She didn't feel comfortable puffing on one of Chris's huge torpedoes," a family friend explained.
