Matt's pounds 1M cycle lift for kids in need; CHARITY.

Byline: MARK JEFFERIES

THE One Show host Matt Baker has raised more than pounds 1million for Children in Need - by biking round the country giving people lifts.

Matt took eight gruelling days to pedal his cycle rickshaw 480 miles, from Edinburgh Castle to London's BBC Television Centre.

The arduous challenge saw him suffer knee and groin problems, but he soldiered on to the finish last night.

Matt said: "Since hopping on the rickshaw outside Edinburgh Castle eight days ago, I haven't gone half a mile without hearing cheers and seeing people donate.

"I know a staggering number of children's lives can now be different."

One Direction kicked off last night's Children In Need show, which featured Lord Sugar taking on Dragons' Den, JLS, Westlife, Susan Boyle, the Muppets and, of course, the BBC's female newsreaders, who did their own take on Strictly.
