Matsui to start margin trading in 84 JASDAQ shares.

TOKYO, Aug. 16 Kyodo

Major online broker Matsui Securities Co. said Thursday it will start allowing its customers on Aug. 27 to engage in margin trading in 84 stocks listed on the JASDAQ over-the-counter market, making it the first Japanese online broker to do so.

Matsui said it will require customers to deposit a margin of only 300,000 yen, the minimum margin requirement for a stock investor under the Securities and Exchange Law.

Matsui wants to expand its customer base by allowing investors intent on playing the stock market with relatively small cash reserves to engage in margin trading, the company said.

Matsui became the first online brokerage to be listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Aug. 1.
