Mathieson and McBain praised.

Cove Rangers chairman Keith Moorhouse has praised co-manager Graeme Mathieson and first-team coach Roy McBain for leading the club to the pyramid play-off final in John Sheran's absence.

The Highland League champions' gaffer suffered a heart attack on April 21 and is recovering at home.

Joint-boss Mathieson and coach McBain guided the Granite City side to a 5-1 aggregate win over Lowland League winners east Kilbride and will lead Cove in the pyramid play-off final against Berwick Rangers, with the first leg this Saturday.

Balmoral Stadium chief Moorhouse said: "We are fortunate that we have high-quality people right throughout our club.

"everyone was devastated when the news came through that John had suffered a heart attack on the Sunday after we had celebrated winning the Highland League.

"It took a couple of days for it to kind of resonate. But when we got everyone together you could sense there was a burning desire to go and finish off the job John had started.

"Graeme and Roy in particular have been wonderful.

"That came as no surprise because they are both fantastic coaches as well as great people.

"Graeme has been with us 10 years so knows how much promotion would mean to us.

"Let's not forget John is also his close friend, so it took a lot to be as focused as he has been on helping the team after all that has happened.

"It's the same with Roy, I really can't thank them enough for how they have managed to get the guys in that dressing room performing during John's enforced absence."
