Matchpoint Academy title pleases Gilham.

Dubai: Australian Troy Gilham says he is pleased with his form after picking up his fifth singles title in the Matchpoint Academy Tennis Open recently.

The victory against Asim Shafik in the final saw the Australian player maintain his supremacy in the 2008 edition of the UAE National Rankings Series coordinated by Tennis Emirates.

"I am pretty pleased with the way I have played this year," Gilham told Gulf News. "Five titles and being runner-up twice is very satisfying."

Gilham was joined by Kim Sa'adi as the duo picked up titles in the men's and girls under-16 categories at the Ritz Carlton courts.

Gilham got past Asim Shafik from Pakistan 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while Sa'adi beat Grace Talih 6-0, 6-4.

Asim Shafiq later drew some consolation winning the mens doubles in company with former Indian Davis Cupper Zeeshan Ali. They 6-4, 6-3 against Frederic Novas and Francois Rachman.

The Matchpoint Academy Open, which was the penultimate round of the eight-round 2008 UAE Ranking Series, was sponsored by the Fortune Group of Companies with support from Prince and Ritz Carlton.
