Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.

Janet LaBreck was recently named commissioner of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services, JudyAnn Bigby. Ms. LaBreck has worked at the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind for the past 22 years. Since 2001, she has been the commission's regional director for central Massachusetts. In this capacity, Ms. LaBreck executed daily agency operations for the region and had been instrumental in promoting partnerships with business, higher education, and nonprofit communities. She successfully facilitated the development and implementation of a national employment network for people who are blind in collaboration with the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation. A certified rehabilitation counselor, Ms. LaBreck also served the commission in various capacities prior to her appointment, including as a vocational rehabilitation counselor (1993-2001), independent living coordinator (1986-2001), and consumer advocate (1985-1986). Since 2005, Ms. LaBreck has been an adjunct professor for Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she teaches the graduate-level courses Rehabilitation of the Blind and Case Management in Rehabilitation. Ms. LaBreck earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts-Boston and a master's degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
