Mascharenhas and Barreto shine in South Goa victory.

SOUTH Goa defeated North Goa 2-0 in the year ending traditional soccer match at Hunaynia Valley Park Ground in East Riffa.

The first-half saw both the teams judged equally with attacking soccer. And in the 10th minute of the second-half, South Goa striker Elton Mascharenhas opened the scoring with a blistering shot a yard outside the box.

Cyril Barreto then finished off with a well-placed ball on to right corner of advancing North Goa goalkeeper Godwin Pinto.

The guest of honour was Maxi Fernandes, who gave away the winners' trophy to South Goa Captain Alan Coutinho.

Edward Sequeira, a former Young Goans Sports Club player, received the Life Time Achievement Award from Bahrain Goans League Official Joaquim D'Costa on the occasion.

The event marked a successful run of soccer matches in 2011 for organisers Bahrain Goans, starting with a one-day tournament.

The Goans also had friendly series games against Dilmun Dons at Bahrain Rugby Club and Um Al Hassam Club, with the current Bahrain Goans Indian Expatriate Football League for 2011-12 going on at Al Qadasiya Ground in Salmaniya.
