Marty Angelo Cancels Disco Step-by-Step 25 Year Reunion/Benefit; Lack of Interest Causes Deep Concern.

BUFFALO, N.Y.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--July 10, 2001

"What started out to be a plan to reunite a group of former dancers to benefit a charitable cause is now unfortunately officially cancelled," states Marty Angelo, organizer of the 25 year reunion of the Disco Step-by-Step(TM) Dance Television Show.

The event was to happen at the Buffalo Airport Radisson on Friday July 27, 2001 at 8pm but is now cancelled due to lack of response.

"I have already spent thousands of dollars on advertising and various expenses trying to attract attention to our event but to date we only sold 40 tickets through Ticketmaster," stated Angelo.

Angelo turned the planned reunion into a benefit for Project ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis a.k.a. Lou Gehring's Disease) after learning one of his former dancers, Helena Paolini, was recently stricken with the dreaded disease. "I wanted to give any profits we made over to this organization who is searching for a possible cure and treatment. I felt we could help them raise some much needed money for research. It just would not be right to continue to pay for a party knowing the outcome would not produce any needed money for either Project ALS nor Paolini. I could not in my right mind dance the night away knowing they would not be receiving a penny," said Angelo.

So instead of spending any more money on additional party expenses Angelo plans to donate the rest of the budget to Project ALS and Ms. Paolini.

"It would cost more money to actually have the party and in turn, because of the lack of interest we would not be able to give anything to Project ALS and Helena. The numbers just do not add up," commented Angelo.

"I have just about gotten down on my hands and knees and begged the local media to get behind this event but the only interest came from Carol Kaplan, WGRZ TV Channel 2 News at Five anchor who herself was one of the former dancers on the show," added Angelo. Kaplan planned a pre-party interview with Angelo and some of the former dancers this Friday. Ticket holders can contact Ticketmaster at 716-853-5000 for a full refund.
