In front a celebrity filled audience Two Women opened at the Theatre Royal Stratford East on Wednesday night.

Adapted from the novel, it is the story of Susan Dalston who ends up in prison for killing her husband. Cole admits Susan is one of her favourite characters: "If she was a real person, I would have liked her as a friend."

Former EastEnders actors Cathy Murphy and Marc Bannerman take on the lead roles.

Bannerman said: "Martina's an old friend of mine, I love her books, I'm really privileged to be a part of it."

Two Women is showing until March 20.
