Marlies Beerli Cabell

Certified Prosthetist Orthotist

Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics

Marlies Beerli Cabell worked for 18 months to become one of only eight certified Wood Cheneau Rigo (WCR) clinicians in the country. Now she is training clinicians at other Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics offices in the use of the new WCR Brace, the latest in bracing for children with scoliosis. The thin brace is helping more children with scoliosis avoid surgery. "I invent new devices specific to a patient," she said.

Cabell and her husband, Eric Cabell, were once named Foster Family of the Year in Harford County and had 13 children placed in their home in a four-year period. "We never closed our home to new foster teens because we wanted to help them make smart decisions to change their future."

Cabell became interested in prosthetics and orthotics as a student athletic trainer at the University of Maryland. She earned a bachelor's degree in neurobiology and physiology in 2004 and went on to study orthotics and prosthetics at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. She became American Board Certified in prosthetics and orthotics in 2010.
