Marion Power Shovel to reopen casting facility.
The metalcasting facility of Marion Power Shovel, Marion, Ohio, is only steps away from reopening its doors after being shut down eight years ago.Cando Contracting, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, seeks to rejuvenate the metalcasting facility to make lost foam steel castings for the agriculture, automotive and rail industries. The company is waiting for approval of a 50%, 10-year tax abatement.
The Marion City Council and Marion County Board of Commissioners both approved the abatement, and the Job Creation Tax Credit Authority of Ohio is planning to state its position April 28.
If the tax reduction is granted, Cando will agree to create 75 jobs by Dec. 31, 2007, with an estimated payroll of $2.3 million.
