Marian McPartland passed away August 20, 2013, at the age of 95.
McPartland was a famed jazz pianist and host of the NPR radio program Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz from 1979-2011.
McPartland was born in England, but moved to the United States in the 1940s after marrying cornet player Jimmy McPartland. Prior to her marriage, she was part of a vaudville act in England and performed throughout Europe during World War II. McPartland is best known for her radio show which included interviews and duets with noted guests from throughout the music industry. Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz received a Peabody Award in 1983.
McPartland received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2004. She continued to record until a few years before her death. She was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2007.
