Margaret Carter UE meets her excellency the right honourable Michaelle Jean.
Her Excellency spoke from the heart and explained why she had come to our fair city. Several years before, she had assisted with the setting up of a women's shelter in Winnipeg. I knew there had been questions about her appointment, but, after listening to her, I was convinced that she has much to give to our country.
After her presentation, refreshments were served and the crowd propelled me toward Her Honour. She spent considerable time with a group of young people while I waited patiently. As they left, a rather large woman pushed in front of me for her husband to take a picture of the Governor General with his wife. My reaction was to reach out my hand to Her Excellency. She took hold of it and held it until the photo-op was completed. There were many more people who wanted to meet her so I simply said that I was from the United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada. My ancestors came to Canada at the time of the American Revolution and we were loyal then as we are now. I wished her well and then was swallowed up by the assembled throng.
