Slade was the latest in a long line of Bluebirds managers. The first was Davy McDougall, who took charge as the club's first full-time manager in 1910.

Some lasted mere days while Fred Stewart (1911-1933) remained in the job for an impressive 22 years and helped Cardiff to magnificient FA Cup glory in 1927.

Our archive pictures show former managers who were Welsh Cup winners, in charge when Cardiff beat footall giants Real Madrid in 1971, in the thick of it when the club gained promotion, and who, more recently, helped the club reach the giddy heights of the FA Cup final in 2008.

How many faces do you recognise?
