Manitoba: congratulations Hilary Carter Alto, PhD, UE.

Dr. Carter was awarded a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Calgary

Hilary was born in Winnipeg and attended Balmoral Hall School for Girls for ten years before completing her high school education at the University of Winnipeg, Collegiate Division. In 1979 she graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. After graduation she married Jussi Alto and moved to Calgary. Hilary worked in the oil industry for a number of years and then stayed home to raise their three children: Jaime 19, Owen 18, and Kevin 15. In 1996 she was awarded her Master of Science in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary before continuing her studies to attain her doctorate.
