Manhattan is filled with lavish luxuries for holiday shoppers.

What better time of year to survey the city's finest in retail and dining than the holidays? Shoppers are descending upon Manhattan's streets in droves, all hoping to grant their loved ones' holiday wishes, and perhaps rewarding themselves in the process. Retailers and restaurateurs have outdone themselves this season. Here is a special overview:

Issey Miyake's 802 Madison Avenue store has opened to great fanfare. It is bigger and more aesthetically impressive, boasting white walls and concrete floors with a massive black and white checkerboard pattern.

The doors have opened at Honora's pearl destination, selling exclusive styles and all-time favorites. At 30 East 57th Street, the store is steps from Madison Avenue with the most decadent of neighbors, including Tiffany & Co., Prada, and Burberry.

Guy Laroche has made his triumphant return to the American retail landscape, having been absent for 12 years. He recently unveiled his boutique at 47 West 57th Street, where the selection of striking cocktail dresses, evening gowns, tailored clothes and much more does not disappoint.

Britain's darling of design, Paul Smith, finally has a New York address, 142 Greene Street, with designs for men, women, and home.

Man of the moment Thorn Browne welcomed his Tribeca store at 100 Hudson Street, boasting classic menswear and made to measure.

While we welcome additions from our old favorites, the Shopping Capital of the World can always boast new entries:

Rita Hazan, hair colorist to the stars, has moved her salon to 720 Fifth Avenue and will now offer services from brow guru Ramy.

5th Avenue Chocolatier is now situated in a prime position on Third Avenue, across from Bloomingdale's.

In Rockefeller Center, next door to Erwin Pearl at 70 West 50th Street, a new concept shop for Palm will open. This holiday season, technology toys are sought after gifts--new openings like this one confirm the trend.

Sherle Wagner flagship showroom opens at 300 East 62nd Street displaying home enhancements with beautiful appointments. Pottery Barn Kids finally has a Manhattan outpost at 69th Street and Second Avenue as the children's market continues to heat up. Roberta Freymann is opening a street-level shop called Roberta Roller Rabbit, where she showcases her exotic-flavored loungewear and home accessories, 1019 Lexington Avenue.

The Noho nabe is now home to aviation-inspired Cockpit USA--formerly Avirex--at 652 Broadway, just a few steps away from Atrium, Nora de Guerre and Urban Outfitters. The shop sells a full range of apparel as well as furniture and collectibles.

In Chelsea, Pottery Barn Bed & Bath, Seventh Avenue between 16th and 17th Streets, is entering into the specialty linens market, next door to Williams Sonoma.

Diesel brand 55DSL, streetwear designed for 15-25-year-old trendsetters, will open its very first boutique at 281 Lafayette Street, a starting point for launching the brand across the United States. British menswear designer Oliver Spencer set up his first shop in Greenwich Village, 750 Greenwich Street. Calypso is opening a fourth store, along with the new Calypso Christiane Celle Enfant concept store for baby furniture, toys, and gear, at 407 Broome Street. 99 Prince Street is the site of J. Crew's new kid's store, Crew Cuts, where the label's signature prepster look is miniaturized. Dutch label Oilily has moved its colorful women's and childrenswear downtown to 465 West Broadway. Brooklyn Industries has a third Manhattan outpost for tees, hoodies, and bags at 500 Hudson Street. Catherine Malandrino expanded her 468 Broome Street store, displaying her exquisitely crafted ensembles and sleek furniture. In a unique footwear revolution, seven distinct collections by seven European designers will be on display at a three-floor American Flagship Te Casan, at West Broadway and Spring Street.

Emerging and limited-edition streetwear labels is the concept at handsome men's shop Blue in Green at 8 Greene Street. Meg Cohen is opening her first shop, with a complete collection of colorful cashmere fringe scarves, striped hats, and home accessories, at 59 Thompson Street.

Nolita newcomer Namja Yeoja, known for colorful men's shirts from emerging European and local labels, has opened at 241 Mulberry Street. Valley, a new multi-brand boutique at 48 Orchard Street features hard-to find edgy labels. On Thompson Street, number 128, Shvitz (Yiddish for "to sweat") has opened, selling out of the celebrity favorite sweats from the West Coast that are in such high demand--thermals, hoodies and sweatpants.

Tribeca Medspa, 114 Hudson Street, is a new spot to get Botox and other heavy duty procedures in a relaxed atmosphere.
