Mandatory mentoring.

Even though President Coxe's goal of increasing mentoring is admirable, his suggested means sent a chill down my spine.

Hank Coxe was an excellent mentor to me and others in the State Attorney's Office many years ago, but he was getting paid to do it and it was part of his job, even though he went above and beyond.

For a quasi-governmental body such as The Florida Bar to require mentoring as a condition of Bar membership violates the Eighth Amendment prohibiting involuntary servitude, as well as basic principles of freedom that we fought for 230 years ago.

More carrot, less stick, Hank.
