Manager gets 10-year jail for raping businesswoman.
An executive manager has been sentenced to ten years in prison and deportation for raping a businesswoman in her flat after making her invite him to discuss business.
The 28-year-old Egyptian manager tricked the Belarusian victim after getting to know her over the Internet, informing her about his intention to do business with her. On May 25 last year, he called her on the phone and visited her at her flat in Jumeirah Lake Towers. Once inside the flat, he took advantage of the fact that she was alone and started sexually harassing her. As she rushed to her bedroom to call the police, he pulled her by the hair and overpowered her by twisting her arms and raped her. The manager has been found guilty of rape with the use of force.
Earlier, defence lawyer Saeed Al Guilani argued in court that the woman's allegations were malicious and aimed at blackmailing his client and extorting money from him.
The 28-year-old complainant from Belarus told the prosecution that when she arrived in Dubai, she wanted to meet the defendant at a cafe in the Marina area. "But he insisted to drop by my place and show me copies of the trade licences he had," she said.
As soon as her girlfriend, who was with her, left the flat, the accused started hitting her and raped her by force. She rushed outside naked later when the defendant entered the toilet.
"He chased me to the lift. I tried to go to the ground floor but he stopped me and pressed the button (in the lift) for the 34th floor." The accused hit her and managed to press the button for the ground floor and fled the building.
An Indian woman teacher, 29, said during investigation that she came out of her flat on the 34th floor to take the lift when she saw the complainant naked. "She was very sad and crying in the lift. There was a man yelling at her."
A police lieutenant said that they checked the security cameras at the building which showed the defendant fighting with the complainant in the lift. The accused was arrested on Shaikh Zayed Road. The defence team is set to appeal the verdict.-- email@example.com
