Man tried to grab woman's handbag.

A MAN grabbed a woman round the neck as he tried to snatch her handbag in Coventry.

The 37-year-old was attacked along a walkway between the A444 Phoenix Way and Elkington Street, Bell Green, at 11.30pm on Friday.

She had got off a bus in Foleshill Road and was walking home when she was approached by a man who greeted her.

The woman ignored him and walked past him but he grabbed her round the neck, pushed her head forward and tried to grab her handbag.

The terrified woman screamed and said someone was coming but after the man checked there was nobody nearby he continued and pulled her T-shirt over her head.

The man then fled empty-handed towards Foleshill.

PC Dean Jones, from Stoney Stanton Road robbery squad, said: "Obviously this was a cowardly and nasty attack on a lone female."

The man is white, aged in his early 40s, 5ft 11, of medium build and had cross eyes.

He had cropped black hair pushed forward, was clean shaven, had a big mouth and dirty teeth.

He was wearing a pale blue T-shirt and was carrying a blue carrier bag.

Anyone with information about the attack should contact PC Dean Jones at Stoney Stanton Road police station on 024 7653 9486.
