Man threatens to stab officer on motorway.

A MAN reportedly threatened to stab a city centre police officer before racially abusing him in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police were first called to the Mancunian Way to reports that the man was 'obstructing' part of the motorway.

When an officer arrived at the scene, the suspect reportedly threatened to stab him, according to city centre Inspector Jon Middleton.

He was then racially abusive towards him, he said.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was taken into police custody. Writing on the GMP City Centre Facebook page at 9am yesterday, Insp Middleton said: "There is also a male in custody after obstructing the Mancunian Way, threatening to stab the officer and then being racially abusive to the officer in the custody office."
