Man suspected of gouging officer's eye arrested in pub.

A MAN suspected of trying to gouge out a police officer's eye has been arrested after he was spotted drinking in a Coventry pub.

Police said they were looking for Christopher Hook in connection with the assault on the off-duty officer who was attacked as he questioned a man acting suspiciously in Abbey Road, Whitley, last month.

The officer was bitten on the chest, had his eye gouged and was threatened with a large rock that the attacker grabbed from a nearby garden.

He was left with a black eye, bite marks on his chest, cuts to his lips and grazes on his arms.

Police arrested the suspect in the Brewer and Baker pub, in East Street, Hillfields at 8pm on Thursday.

Detectives started questioning him on suspicion of wounding yesterday.

The officer who was attacked was off duty for several days due to his injuries but has since returned to work.
