Man shot dead by the police.

A MAN was shot and killed by a police officer following a domestic dispute at a house today.

The officer opened fire after being threatened by the man, who was believed to be carrying a shotgun, in Codnor, Derbyshire at 1am, said a police spokesman.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Officers were called to the house, on Whitegates, Codnor, near Ripley, early this morning by a woman who said she had been threatened with a knife by her ex-partner.

Police arrived at the scene to find a man brandishing what appeared to be a shotgun.

Armed response vehicle crews were called immediately, a police spokeswoman said.

Further threats were made to police officers by the 30-year-old man and one officer opened fire.
