Man of the People: We're on a greed trip.

ONE of the greatest blights in today's society is the ever-burgeoning compensation culture.

You've just got to watch daytime TV to be aware of advert after advert teasing us to rack our brains to remember the slightest trip or fall - however trivial - that could have resulted in injury.

Open a paper and when she's not looking for a new man, Esther Rantzen is looking for victims - or maybe that's one and the same. Anyway, I digress.

I was actually stopped in the street by a man with a clipboard who cheerily asked me if I'd had an accident in the last three years.

I thought about that lightning strike but then I thought God might be hard to bring to court.
