Man moves his arm with mind power.

Byline: CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

A PARALYSED man has become the first in the world to move his arm with the power of his mind - giving hope to millions of patients.

Ian Burkhart, 23, had a 0.15in chip implanted in his brain and after practice drills he was able to curl his hand and briefly pick up a spoon.

The development in Ohio, US, is seen as the first real step in the "bionic age".

Ian cannot move from the elbows down after he broke his neck in 2010.

He said: "It'd be really nice to do something as simple as open a water bottle myself."

His chip has 96 electrodes that read his mind with the help of a computer. Messages are sent to a cable attached to a sleeve fitted to his arm, which stimulates muscles.
