Man is badly hurt in brawl.

Police were forced to close a popular Tyne-side nightspot after a man was injured in a late-night brawl.

More than 30 people were believed to be involved in a fight outside the Pier 39 nightclub in South Parade, Whitley Bay, just after 10.30pm on Saturday.

Officers sent revellers away and closed down the bar while they examined the scene for forensic evidence.

Insp Ian Mathieson said: "There was a large scale fight and we are treating it as a case of violent disorder.

"No damage was done and the CCTV cameras picked up most of what happened, but we still need to trace the other people involved.

"If there is anybody who witnessed the fight then we would ask them to come forward, we have already arrested two local men who are helping us with our enquires."

One man was arrested and bailed without charge.
