Man in his 40s 'found hanged' in busy city centre street at lunchtime as people shopped nearby; Emergency services were called to the scene in Plymouth following concerned reports for his welfare but the man was confirmed dead.

A man has been found hanged in a busy city centre street in the middle of lunchtime, according to reports.

Policeconfirmed a man in his 40s was found dead after they received concerned reports for his welfare.

Emergency services were called to an address near Mayflower Street in Plymouth at about 12.30pm today.

According toDevon Livethe man was found hanged.

The scene of the incident is near a busy city centre car park. There are also branches of Iceland, Toni & Guy and Coral bookmakers as well as the city's central library in the road.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told Mirror Online: "Police and ambulance were called at around 12.30pm today to reports of concern for welfare of a man in Plymouth.

"Emergency services attended an address near Mayflower street where a man in his 40s was confirmed deceased.

"Efforts are underway to locate his next of kin.

"Police are not treating the death as suspicious at this time."
