Man flagging down cars to sell jewels.


DRIVERS have been warned about a man flagging down motorists then trying to sell them jewellery.

During a spate of incidents on motorways across the North West, the suspect waved down motorists from the hard shoulder of different motorways, pretending he has broken down.

The man has targeted drivers on the M6, M61 and M62, Cheshire Police said.

In the latest incident, the man stood on the hard shoulder of the M6 southbound, at junction 21A for Warrington, on Thursday, May 3.

Police were called at about 11am to the scene, but he had disappeared by the time they arrived.

Insp Mark Jones, of the Roads Policing Unit at Cheshire Police, is warning motorists to be vigilant.

He said: "I ask motorists to be wary of anyone flagging them down under suspicious circumstances.

Mark Jones "Ideally we would like people to take note of the number plate of the vehicle concerned, but motorists should only do this if it is safe to do so."

Anyone who witnesses a similar incident, is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 53067.
