Man avoids prison over cop insult; COURT.

A MAN who told a police officer, "No wonder people put bombs under police cars", was given a six-month jail sentence, suspended for three years, yesterday.

Michael McDaid, 40, from Corrody Road in the Gobnascale area of Derry, pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital's accident and emergency department on March 1. At Derry Magistrate's Court, Deputy District Judge Nigel Broderick was told McDaid arrived in hospital in a drunken condition with head injuries and with a suspected fractured jaw.

He forced himself between a prisoner and a police officer and verbally abused the officer and made a nuisance of himself in front of medical staff and patients.
